World Map & Resource Distribution

Scrap Mechanic's survival world is a large, procedurally-inspired island with distinct biomes, resource nodes, and points of interest. This guide breaks down every region, what resources you'll find there, and where to locate Warehouses, merchants, and the underground mine entrance.

World Overview

The survival world consists of a main island surrounded by water, with multiple biomes and regions. The 1.0 Drilling Thunder update reworked the entire world terrain with new tiles, forest roads, a desert biome, and the new Miner Island area serving as the entry to the underground mine.

Region Breakdown

Coastal / Beach Areas

  • Location — Shorelines around the island
  • Resources — Sand, driftwood, shell-like scrap, water access
  • Points of Interest — Shipwrecks, beach ruins, fishing spots
  • Enemies — Minimal on beaches, but bots roam nearby

Warehouse Locations

Warehouses are large, multi-floor dungeons filled with bots and rare loot. They are the primary source of high-end items like the Spud Gun, advanced parts, and Schematic Boxes.

  • Number on map — Multiple Warehouses scattered across the island
  • Appearance — Large industrial buildings with loading docks and metal doors
  • Entry requirement — Warehouse Key (found in ruins, bot drops, or crafted)
  • Difficulty — Varies by location; some are harder than others
  • Loot — Spud Guns, advanced parts, Schematic Boxes, rare clothing, large resource caches
  • Enemies — Dense populations of Tapebots, Haybots, and occasionally Farmbots

See the Warehouse Guide for detailed floor layouts and speedrun routes.

Mechanic Stations & Merchants

Mechanic Stations are your main hubs for crafting, trading, and quest progression:

  • Services — Craftbot, Cookbot, Dressbot, Schematic Bot, Refinebot, Packing Station
  • Bed — Set your spawn point here
  • Merchants — Some stations have NPCs who trade or give quests
  • Storage — Community chests (in multiplayer) or personal storage
  • Location — Several stations across the island, marked on your map once discovered

Exploration Tips

  1. Build a vehicle first — The world is large; walking takes forever. A basic car changes everything.
  2. Bring a bed — Place a portable bed at exploration outposts to set spawn points
  3. Carry spare fuel — Always bring extra gasoline; running out in the middle of nowhere is bad
  4. Mark locations — Use signs or map markers to note Warehouses, ruins, and resource nodes
  5. Explore ruins — Abandoned structures contain Schematic Boxes, clothing, and rare parts
  6. Watch the weather — Desert tornadoes can destroy vehicles; take shelter when one approaches
  7. Don't explore at night — Bots are more aggressive and harder to see. Set up camp and wait for dawn.
  8. Bring food and weapons — Always be prepared for combat; you never know what's around the corner
